Deputy Headteacher Appointment
The Board of Trustees is delighted to announce the appointment of Richard Hammond as Carwarden’s new Deputy Headteacher, effective this September.
To ensure stability during this transition, our current interim SLT arrangements will remain in place until the end of the academic year. We are incredibly grateful for the continuity and dedicated support provided by the team as we navigate this period of change together.
About Richard Hammond
Richard brings a wealth of specialist experience to Carwarden. He qualified as a Secondary PE teacher in 2012 and transitioned into specialist education in 2013 at Hazel Court in Eastbourne, working across the FE department and KS3.
After relocating to Surrey in 2016, Richard joined Walton Leigh School. Since January 2020, he has served as Assistant Head of School and, more recently, as Deputy Headteacher. His leadership portfolio is extensive, spanning:

Outside of his professional life, Richard is a keen sportsman and enjoys staying active and spending quality time with his wife and two young daughters.
