Carwarden House Community School

Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome to our website

I hope our website will give you a flavour of what we do and how we work and encourages you to visit to see us in action.

We are a LAN (learning & additional needs) special school for students between the ages of 11 and 19 with an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP) identifying special educational and health needs. Our students have a wide range of needs including moderate learning difficulties, autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, speech, language and communication needs and other conditions associated with learning difficulties and / or medical needs. We became an academy on 1st August 2014.

We have a strong shared vision - learning for life, independence and employment - developed after discussion with staff, Trustees, students and parents. It encapsulates all that we endeavour to instil in our students by the time they leave us to take their place in the world.

Parents tell us in very strong terms that they want us to focus on developing life skills and independence in their son or daughter. Our shared vision and all that flows from it reflects that ambition for every student.

We are highly regarded and as a result, attract students from many neighbouring local authorities.

If you are a parent or carer, or thinking of joining our staff, I encourage you to follow this up with a visit. The staff and students will be delighted to meet you and tell you why we are so proud of our school. Please refer to Parents / Prospective Parents page for more information on our open days this year.

Visitors to the school consistently offer impressive and positive feedback and I always share this with my colleagues.

I look forward to meeting you in person in the near future.
