Carwarden House Community School

'Connections' time

Connections Time

Daily Connections time is an important part of our students’ learning programme at Carwarden. It is a time when we strive not just to foster positive relationships between peers but to build a strong sense of community.  Tutor groups all share a common theme for the week using resources prepared to stimulate discussion and grow understanding around a range of issues.  This may include issues and events in the community and wider world, as well as the chance to develop interpersonal skills. Themes include mental health, wellbeing, resilience, democracy, significant religious celebrations, commemoration events and national awareness raising campaigns (e.g. Down Syndrome, ASD, Jeans for Genes) and some provide opportunities for fund-raising for nominated charities.  Key Stage assemblies often are centred around these whole school themes.

Themes to be covered this academic year are shown below.

During Connections time we also deliver targeted therapeutic support.  For instance, all tutor groups have resources and devote time to address the identified OT needs of particular students with specialist programmes and interventions supported by OT professionals.
