Admission Procedures
Prior to placement being confirmed (Stage 1)
Parents/carers are encouraged to make an informal visit to the school. This may often be suggested by the Case Officer, Educational Psychologist, or the current school. We offer regular open mornings to facilitate this for key transfers and bespoke tours for in-year admissions. These are intended to provide the parents/carers with the necessary information required to make an informed choice regarding their child’s placement. They may wish to be accompanied by a key professional or a friend.
Parents/carers may wish to indicate that they would like their child to be considered for a placement at Carwarden. This may also happen through the Annual Review process, an EHCP meeting or be a direct request through their child’s SEND case worker.
All referrals (including those from others local authorities) are coordinated by Surrey SEND Admission / Placement teams. The LA will make a formal request for a placement and papers are sent for a school decision/view on a referral to Carwarden. After consideration of the papers and appropriate consultation, the school will either;
Agree the place is appropriate and confirm an offer to the Local Authority (possibly with a request for additional funding)
Or
Notify the Local Authority that we feel unable to meet the child’s needs, with clear reasons for this decision
Or
Say yes “in principle” we can meet needs but state that a place is currently unavailable at that time.
