Connection Time Tutor Themes

Tutor Time

Daily Connections Time is an important part of our students’ learning programme at Carwarden. It is a time when we strive not just to foster positive relationships between peers but to build a strong sense of community.  Tutor groups share a common focus for the week using resources prepared to stimulate discussion and grow understanding around a range of issues.  This may include issues and events in the community and wider world, as well as the chance to develop personal skills. Themes include mental health, democracy, resilience, significant religious celebrations, commemoration events and national awareness raising campaigns (e.g. Down Syndrome, Jeans for Genes) and some provide opportunities for fund-raising for our nominated charities. Usually the school will share a particular focus for a week which might be supported by assemblies linked to the theme.

We also seek to deliver targeted therapeutic support during Tutor Time.  For instance, all groups in the main site have resources and devoted time to address the identified OT needs of particular students.
