Vivian Novis, Jack Saunders, Mary Crawley, Nicole Williams and Charlotte Bratt from Carwarden House Community School are all part of the Surrey based Just So Singers Choir and on Saturday 25th January they all travelled up to London with pupils from other Surrey special schools. Just So Singers were invited to take part in the Sir John Tavener celebration weekend held at St John's Smith Square, London, which was a celebration of this famous British composer's life.

The choir was asked to sing A Prayer for Jerusalem, which had never been performed in the UK before. So a UK premiere for our students! There may not have been the red carpet or paparazzi as usually found at premieres but the performance has been reported in The Times and The Guardian!

This was no mean feat for the choir as they only received the music the week before and managed to squeeze in another rehearsal on the day with the orchestra. The piece was a three-fold mantra which lasted approximately 10 minutes with the students having to sing louder and quieter throughout. They all did fantastically to just keep going!

It was an incredible experience and the students were absolutely outstanding. The audience and orchestra were blown away by the commitment and singing by the students. Well done everyone.
