Years 8 & 9 Visit Farnham Museum

Years 8 and 9 enjoyed a day at Farnham Museum. The students had the chance to dress up and become Victorian school children for the day.

The Year 8 and 9 students participated in trips to Farnham Museum before Christmas. They all dressed up in Victorian clothes (including their teachers) and spent the day experiencing life as a student in a Victorian School.  They tried writing with scratchy pens and ink, writing on slate, PE drills, playing with Victorian toys, and working out what certain Victorian kitchen gadgets might be used for. They also enjoyed watching and joining in a Victorian play in the afternoon.  Our teacher, who we had to call “Ma’am” gave us short lessons in the three Rs and demonstrated how Victorian children were disciplined (with the cane) if they didn’t display good manners, have clean hands and work hard and at all times. We were also given a tour of the museum itself and learnt about three children from Farnham with working class, middle and upper class backgrounds. All the children enjoyed the day and have already shown that they learnt a lot!
